Jan Shatabdi Express

The Jan Shatabdi Express is a type of the Shatabdi Express which is more affordable to the common man. Launched by the Indian Railways in 2003, these trains have proved to be very popular among the masses across the length and breadth of India. The trains have both AC and non-AC accommodation unlike the Shatabdi Express which offer only AC compartments. Launched specifically to cater to the needs of the common man-as the word "Jan" suggests-the trains even used to feature on board catering service which was removed later on. The Jan Shatabdi expresses mostly run on broad gauge with the exception of the Hill Queen Express (MG) which was the only meter gauge track Jan Shatabdi in India. The Hill Queen Express too was converted to a broad gauge service later on. Some of the popular Jan Shatabdi expresses that run n India are Amritsar - Haridwar, New Delhi - Dehradun, Ajmer - Hazrat Nizamuddin, Howrah - Bhubneshwar, and Bengaluru City - Hubli.
